Finca La Colonia is the estate where Norton started. This single-vineyard Malbec has deep fruit, velvety tannins and an easy, enveloping warmth. Think of it as the grandfather of the range: wise, grounded and full of stories.
Tastes like: Blackberry and ripe plum, with sweet tobacco and a hint of clove.
Feels like: Full-bodied and dry, with a bit of grip, gentle acidity and oak in the background.
Great with: Roast duck, beef stew, eggplant parmigiana. Good for impressing the in-laws without showing off.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Braised beef brisket, roast duck rice, Korean galbi.
The geeky bit: Malbec from the La Colonia estate in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, at 950 metres.
Why we like it: A wine with history, and it still tells the story beautifully.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
