Classic Tuscany in a lighter frame.
From Montepulciano, in south-east Tuscany, comes this bright, easy-drinking Rosso. Salterio is mostly Prugnolo Gentile, the local name for Sangiovese, with a splash of Colorino. Fresh red fruit, a little spice and soft tannins.
Tastes like: Red cherry and other red fruit, with violet and a little spice.
Feels like: Light-bodied and dry, with soft tannins, bright freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Pasta with meat sauce, roast chicken, grilled red meat, aged cheeses.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Char siew, soy sauce chicken, claypot rice.
The geeky bit: 95% Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) and 5% Colorino from sandy, silty-clay soils at Valiano di Montepulciano. Three months in large French oak vats, then three in bottle. Organic.
Accolades: 91 pts Falstaff
Why we like it: Delicious and versatile. A red to drink right through a meal.
Serve: 14 to 16°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
Alcohol: 14%
