Brunello for lovers of the richer style.
Vigna Spuntali is Val di Suga’s south-west-facing vineyard in Montalcino, full of sunlight and rich in fossil limestone. The 2018 is lush and dense, with plush black fruit, liquorice and exotic spice. This is the 1.5L magnum.
Tastes like: Black cherry and liquorice, with balsamic notes, dark chocolate, vanilla and clove.
Feels like: Full-bodied and dry, with firm, drying grip, bright freshness and oak in the background.
Great with: Prime rib, duck confit, grilled mushrooms, beef Wellington.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Roast goose, braised beef brisket, wagyu yakiniku.
The geeky bit: Sangiovese from a south-west-facing vineyard on limestone-rich clay. Hand-harvested and aged in French oak tonneaux.
Accolades: 97 pts Jeb Dunnuck · 96 pts Falstaff · 94 pts James Suckling · 93 pts Wine Advocate
Why we like it: Richness, volume and unmistakable vineyard character. Deep, dark and delicious.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first. Decant 30 to 60 minutes.
Alcohol: 14.5%
