Tuscany’s after-dinner classic.
Vin Santo is Tuscany’s traditional sweet wine. This one from Tenuta Trerose is amber in colour, with a complex, intense nose and a soft, velvety palate, finishing balanced with good acidity. Comes in a 375ml half bottle.
Tastes like: Figs and dried apricots, with hazelnuts and cinnamon.
Feels like: Full-bodied and sweet, with balanced freshness and oak in the background.
Great with: Cantucci (almond biscuits) for dipping, blue cheese, nut tarts. Or a small glass on its own after dinner.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Egg tarts, pineapple tarts, almond cookies.
The geeky bit: 100% Malvasia Bianca from Montepulciano. The grapes are laid out on racks to dry for about four months before pressing, then the wine is matured.
Why we like it: A little sweetness, a lot of character. One half bottle goes a long way.
Serve: 8 to 10°C. Well chilled.
Alcohol: 12.5%
