Hungary’s golden classic.
Tokaji Aszú is made from grapes shrivelled by noble rot and picked berry by berry. At 5 Puttonyos it is rich and sweet, but Tokaj’s bright acidity keeps it fresh and elegant. From Oremus, the Tokaj estate of the Vega Sicilia family. Comes in a 500ml bottle.
Tastes like: Apricot and mandarin peel, with ginger, honeycomb and spice.
Feels like: Full-bodied and sweet, with bright freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Foie gras, duck pâté, fruit desserts, almond pastries.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Egg tarts, pineapple tarts, mango pudding.
The geeky bit: Furmint from Tokaj in Hungary: hand-picked botrytised berries, aged in oak in the estate’s cellars.
Accolades: 92 pts Wine Spectator
Why we like it: Balance, brightness and elegance in a sweet wine.
Serve: 8 to 10°C. Well chilled.
Alcohol: 12%
