The original Super Tuscan, in a celebrated vintage.
Sassicaia, from Tenuta San Guido at Bolgheri, is the wine that started the Super Tuscan story. The 2016 has complex aromas, vibrant acidity and long, silky tannins. A bottle for collectors and Cabernet lovers.
Tastes like: Blackberry and menthol, with tobacco, leather and flint.
Feels like: Full-bodied and dry, with firm, drying grip, bright freshness and oak in the background.
Great with: Game, short rib, porcini pasta, rosemary lamb.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Wagyu sukiyaki, roast goose, Peking duck.
The geeky bit: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from gravel vineyards near the Tuscan coast, aged in barrique.
Accolades: 100 pts Decanter · 97 pts Wine Spectator · 97 pts James Suckling
Why we like it: A great vintage of an already famous wine.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first. Decant 30 to 60 minutes.
Alcohol: 14%
