Semillon deserves the spotlight.
Argentina is famous for reds, but this white can steal the show. From high vineyards in the Uco Valley, it is fresh, textured and elegant, like Sauvignon Blanc’s more mysterious cousin, with a subtle honeyed depth.
Tastes like: Lemon peel, chamomile and green apple, with a touch of beeswax and a salty finish.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with bright freshness and no oak.
Great with: Grilled prawns, lemon butter pasta, roast chicken.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Kaya toast, chicken rice, steamed fish.
The geeky bit: Semillon from Gualtallary and La Consulta in the Uco Valley, at more than 1,000 metres. Cool climate and stony soils give expressive fruit and zippy acidity.
Why we like it: A white with personality and that Andes attitude.
Serve: 10 to 12°C. Straight from the fridge is a touch too cold; give it a few minutes in the glass.
Alcohol: 13.5%
