Malbec with a mountain soul.
This is not just another Argentine Malbec. Altura comes from the upper slopes of the Uco Valley and speaks in cooler tones: finer tannins, vivid fruit and floral spice. If Norton’s Reserva is plush, the Altura is poised.
Tastes like: Black cherry and wild violets, with crushed stone and white pepper.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with a bit of grip, bright freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Lamb skewers, grilled portobello burgers, duck confit.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Bak kut teh (with a wine-glass upgrade), roast duck, lamb satay.
The geeky bit: Malbec grown above 1,200 metres in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, where poor soils and cold nights give complexity and lift.
Accolades: 94 pts Descorchados
Why we like it: Proof that Malbec can be serious and sophisticated without losing its Mendoza charm.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
Alcohol: 14.5%
