A Rhône village red that speaks of where it comes from.
Saint Maurice is one of the named villages of the southern Rhône. This cuvée brings together Grenache’s juicy red fruit and Syrah’s darker, peppery side, with Mourvèdre in support. Smooth, lively and very good at the dinner table.
Tastes like: Blackberry, cassis and red cherry, with cracked pepper, lavender and earthy spice.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with a bit of grip, balanced freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Roast lamb shoulder with garlic, beef bourguignon, braised short ribs, mushroom risotto.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Braised beef brisket, cumin lamb skewers, roast duck.
The geeky bit: Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah from Saint Maurice, known for sunny, stony soils that drain well and concentrate the grapes.
Why we like it: A great introduction to Saint Maurice: structured, aromatic and food-friendly.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
