Valpolicella from a single vineyard above an old mine.
Le Miniere comes from one vineyard at Bertani’s Tenuta Novare, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. It is the fresh, savoury side of Veneto: light on its feet, with lively acidity and a long, salty finish. No heavy oak, no heavy extraction.
Tastes like: Fresh cherry and wild berries, with delicate white pepper.
Feels like: Light-bodied and dry, with soft tannins, bright freshness and no oak.
Great with: Tomato-based pasta, pizza with mushrooms or salami, roast chicken, grilled meats, hard cheeses.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Soy sauce chicken, yakitori, char siew.
The geeky bit: Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella from the Le Miniere vineyard at Arbizzano di Negrar: about four hectares on two south-west-facing terraces above the old Novare mine shaft. The soil is limestone and reddish clay.
Why we like it: Valpolicella does not need to be big to impress. Freshness, character and very good with food.
Serve: 14 to 16°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
Alcohol: 12%
