Made for Singapore food.
Gewurztraminer is the most aromatic grape of Alsace, and this one from Domaine Mersiol shows why. Full-bodied and off-dry, with a perfumed nose and a long finish.
Tastes like: Rose, lychee and mango, with sweet spice.
Feels like: Full-bodied and off-dry, with gentle acidity and no oak.
Great with: Munster and washed-rind cheeses, fruit desserts.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Laksa, Thai green curry, tandoori chicken.
The geeky bit: 100% Gewurztraminer from organically farmed vineyards around Dambach-la-Ville, in the foothills of the Vosges, one of the driest and sunniest corners of France. A family estate.
Why we like it: Few wines handle chilli as well as an off-dry Gewurztraminer.
Serve: 10 to 12°C. Straight from the fridge is a touch too cold; give it a few minutes in the glass.
Alcohol: 13%
