Chardonnay for people who think they do not like Chardonnay.
Chapel Hill is a well-known McLaren Vale estate, and its Unwooded Chardonnay is made without oak to show pure fruit. This is an older vintage, so the fresh stone fruit has rounded out and picked up a light honeyed note.
Tastes like: White peach, melon and lemon, with a touch of honey.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with balanced freshness and no oak.
Great with: Grilled fish, roast chicken, creamy pasta, salads.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Chicken rice, steamed fish, prawn dumplings.
The geeky bit: Chardonnay from McLaren Vale, South Australia, a warm region cooled by breezes from the Gulf St Vincent. No oak at all.
Why we like it: Pure fruit, no oak, and a little extra roundness from time in bottle.
Serve: 10 to 12°C. Straight from the fridge is a touch too cold; give it a few minutes in the glass.
Alcohol: 13.5%
