Spain’s favourite grape, no fuss.
Tempranillo is Spain’s most famous red grape, and this is an easy way in. Medium-bodied with soft tannins, it balances ripe fruit with a savoury side. As happy at a tapas night as at a proper dinner.
Tastes like: Black cherry, plum and blackberry, with vanilla, tobacco and a hint of leather.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with soft tannins, balanced freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Jamón Ibérico, roast lamb with herbs, grilled sausages.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Char siew, claypot rice, Korean BBQ.
The geeky bit: Tempranillo from inland vineyards in Aragón, on clay and limestone soils. Made by Bodegas Tempore.
Why we like it: Comforting, smooth and always reliable.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
Alcohol: 13.5%
