A cheeky name, a seriously refreshing white.
The name translates, roughly, as “I’m as white as a bum”. That sets the tone: playful on the outside, properly made on the inside. A southern Rhône white full of fresh fruit and lively acidity.
Tastes like: Citrus blossom, pear and white peach, with lemon zest and a mineral note.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with bright freshness and no oak.
Great with: Grilled sea bass, shellfish platters, goat cheese salads, chicken with lemon and thyme.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Steamed fish with ginger, chicken rice, salt and pepper squid.
The geeky bit: Grenache Blanc and Viognier from Rhône vineyards on clay and limestone soils, which help keep the wine fresh. Chastel Samson describes its vineyard practices as sustainable.
Why we like it: Cheeky, memorable and well made. The label gets the laugh, the wine gets the second glass.
Serve: 10 to 12°C. Straight from the fridge is a touch too cold; give it a few minutes in the glass.
