Col di Sasso means “stony hill”, after the rocky slopes around Montalcino where Banfi grows the fruit. It blends Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon: fruity up front, gently structured behind.
Tastes like: Ripe plum, blueberry and red cherry, with a touch of spice.
Feels like: Medium-bodied and dry, with a bit of grip, balanced freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Pizza, pasta with ragù, grilled sausages, burgers.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Char siew, roast duck rice, beef hor fun.
The geeky bit: From Banfi’s estate vineyards in southern Tuscany, where stony soils and warm days ripen both grapes fully.
Why we like it: Honest fruit, no fuss, and a price that lets you open a second bottle.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
