Rhône red with a cheeky label and a serious heart.
Chastel Samson is known for its playful labels, but the wine inside is the real thing: ripe, generous and easy to like. Dark fruit, a lick of pepper and herbs, velvety tannins and a long, warming finish.
Tastes like: Black cherry, plum and blackberry, violets, black pepper, a little cocoa and herbs.
Feels like: Full-bodied and dry, with a bit of grip, balanced freshness and a light touch of oak.
Great with: Beef bourguignon, lamb skewers, grilled sausages, mushroom risotto, aged cheeses.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Braised beef brisket noodles, lamb satay, char siew.
The geeky bit: Mostly Grenache and Syrah, grown on clay and limestone soils and picked by hand.
Why we like it: Bold, expressive and approachable. Proof that Rhône reds can be authentic and fun at the same time.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
Alcohol: 13.5%
