Perfumed, zesty and made for spicy food.
Torrontés is Argentina’s signature white grape, and this one comes from Salta, one of the highest wine regions in the world. It smells like a bunch of white flowers, then surprises you by being properly dry and refreshing. All the flair of an aromatic white, minus the sweetness.
Tastes like: Jasmine and orange blossom, lychee, fresh peach and lemon zest.
Feels like: Light-bodied and dry, with bright freshness and no oak.
Great with: Grilled prawns, ceviche, a tangy mango salad.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Thai green curry, Vietnamese rice rolls. Sichuan hot pot, if you dare.
The geeky bit: Torrontés from Salta’s Cafayate Valley, where the vines grow at more than 1,700 metres. Strong sun and cold nights at that height give the wine its perfume and crisp acidity.
Accolades: 90 pts Falstaff
Why we like it: Character and charm in one bottle, and insanely food-friendly.
Serve: 8 to 10°C. Well chilled.
Alcohol: 12.5%
