Tuscany’s most underrated red.
Tenuta Trerose is one of the most beautiful estates in the Vino Nobile zone. Santa Caterina is its 100% Sangiovese Vino Nobile: intense ruby red, a nose bursting with red fruit, and a plush palate with a long finish.
Tastes like: Cherries in liqueur, redcurrant and blackberry, with myrtle and orange peel.
Feels like: Full-bodied and dry, with a bit of grip, bright freshness and oak in the background.
Great with: Roast lamb, bistecca, wild boar ragù, aged pecorino.
Singapore and Asian favourites: Roast duck, braised beef brisket, char siew.
The geeky bit: Sangiovese from hillside vineyards around Montepulciano, in south-east Tuscany.
Why we like it: Brunello-style depth at a friendlier price.
Serve: 16 to 18°C. Room temperature in Singapore is too warm for red wine, so give it 20 minutes in the fridge first.
Alcohol: 13.5%
