Age: 1997
Producer: Mousquetaire du Roy
The name is an allusion to D’Artagnan, one of Gascony’s most famous sons, and the origin of the spirits is no less noble: they are sourced by Marc Darroze, one of the very top names among Armagnac producers. Traditional continuous distillation in Armagnac stills ensures the preservation of the traditional Armagnac aromas, however requires a longer barrel aging period to bring out the complex and elegant bouquet. The VSOP is aged for at least 5 years in casks made from French oak from the local forests of Gascony and Limousin. The Bas-Armagnac vineyards are situated in the western heartland of Gascony, on fawn-colored sandy alluvial soils that produce a delicate and fruity Armagnac.
Tasting Notes: This vintage Armagnac shows a lovely balance of fresh fruit aromas – apple, apricot – with darker secondary characteristics of licorice and citrus peel coming from the aging in barrel.
