Penfolds has been producing remarkable wines since 1844 and indisputably led the development of Australian fine wine in the modern era. The introduction of Penfolds Grange in 1951 forever changed the landscape of Australian fine wine. Since then a series of stand-out wines both white and red have been released under the Penfolds masthead.
Tasting Notes: Bin 2 by Penfolds is a concentrated, full-bodied red wine cuvée from the Mataro and Shiraz grape varieties. The grapes for this red wine grow in the Australian wine-growing region South Australia.
In the glass, this wine reveals a deep dark, strong black-red colour with a deep, purple core. This cuvée shows a warm spicy, aromatically robust bouquet with hints of figs, dates, plums (prunes), quince paste and cake spices. Notes of preserved blueberries and blackberries and leather underline the aromas of the nose.
On the palate, this Australian red wine is full and velvety with a medium to full body and a taste reminiscent of rich berry fruit and warm chocolate aromas. Subtle oak notes and sophisticated integrated, fine-grained, almost powdery tannin are added in the background. A fresh acidity and a long, chunky finish with a spicy aftertaste of dark berries perfect this wine.
